Introduction
Vacheron Constantin has evolved over the years from their position in the shadows of their fellow "Holy Trinity" members, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, to a watchmaker that is revered throughout the entire watchmaking industry. Crucial to this development was their attractive dress watches like the ref. 6503 that we have here with its stunning refinished silver dial and beautiful 28mm 18kt rose gold construction. While most high-end brands typically focus on creating round dress watches, there has always been room for watchmakers to experiment with timepieces that break from that convention in some way, shape or form, and shape is how the example that we have here breaks from that convention. Square in shape, this textured 18kt rose gold case lacks corners and features a pronounced bevelled bezel with a polished inner bezel swooping in on all four sides giving a unique aesthetic. Set apart from the typical circular dress watches of its era in aesthetics, this example indeed matches its peers in specs with its and manual-wind movement, which was certainly to be expected at the time for a dress watch.

THE DIAL
Refinished in its history, this example's dial boasts a bright silver color that serves as the perfect backdrop to its applied 18kt rose gold indices and hands that give the watch a vintage charm and appeal through their warm tones.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring an intriguing square 18kt rose gold construction with a textured finish, the ref. 6503's case combines thick curved polished bevels, a lack of corners, and flat straight lugs to create a case that is geometric, full of personality, and expertly constructed.
TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The rose gold case shows light surface marks, with the sunburst engraving on the bezel still well defined, though with gentle wear around the edges. The dial has been refinished at some point. It is in excellent condition, displaying some light surface marks and oxidation on the applied hour markers, while the hands remain very clean. It is fitted with a brown leather strap, the lower portion of which is splitting, and a gold-plated buckle showing some wear to the finish.
Our Perspective
Full of 1960s charm through its bright, understated silver dial and distinctive 18kt rose gold case that blends a textured finish with a unique shape and profile to create something sculptural, the result is a wonderful exhibition of Vacheron's mid-century capabilities.
