Introduction

Tracing its origins to 1954, the Tudor Submariner was released as a cost-effective counterpart to its eponymous Rolex sibling. Blending Rolex-quality externals with an off-the-shelf movement to cut production, Tudor’s Submariner proved to be incredibly robust and popular. Released in 1959, the ref. 7928 is perhaps the most iconic Tudor Submariner as it had the longest production run; extending until 1968, and being the reference that introduced crown guards to the collection. Used across numerous militaries due to its quality and cost-effective nature, the Tudor Submariner has a long and storied history as a watch that has been there and done it all as it was intended. Offered here, our example boasts an aged black aluminum bezel and a matching black dial with aged painted luminous indices and matching luminescent hands that highlight the ref. 7928’s age and heritage.

THE DIAL

Featuring a black matte tritium dial with deeply aged-yellow painted indices and matching hands, there is no doubt that this watch has lived a long and storied life on the wrists of those who needed it to perform at its best.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Inarguably iconic, the Tudor Submariner's stainless steel construction is complemented by its sharp-toothed bezel, providing rich utility to divers timing their descent and ascent into, and out of, the depths.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Although the watch ticks at time of cataloging, we are unable to get a timing machine readout. Please assume the watch needs a service and bid accordingly.

Condition

Watch is in overall very good condition. The steel case shows surface scratches, nicks, and signs of previous polish, with worn soft edges. The case back has light surface scratches and retains well-defined engravings. The bezel is excellent, while the insert shows a number of scratches and marks. The dial surface is near mint, with discoloration visible to the lume plots, while the hands show some oxidation and discoloured lume. It is fitted with a black Girard-Perregaux crocodile strap in good condition and a Rolex-stamped steel pin buckle.

Please Note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, however no timing machine reading could be obtained.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

One of the most-sought-after and longest-running Submariner references, the ref. 7928 is seen as one of the references that enabled the Tudor Submariner to earn the reputation that it did.
