Among Patek Philippe's most historically important timepieces, the reference 725 occupies a unique place in the evolution of the perpetual calendar. Introduced during the first half of the twentieth century, it established many of the display layouts and mechanical principles that would later define the manufacture's legendary perpetual calendar wristwatches, including the references 1518, 2499, 3448, 3970, 5970 and 5270. While Patek Philippe is rightly celebrated for these wristwatches, it was pocket watches such as the reference 725 that laid the foundations for nearly a century of perpetual calendar excellence.

This exceptionally rare reference 725/2 dates from 1951 and features one of the most unusual calendar displays produced by the manufacture. Rather than the familiar four-register layout seen on many examples, it employs a highly legible linear digital display for the day, date and month, complemented by a beautifully executed moonphase at six o'clock. Believed to have been produced in fewer than one hundred examples across all metals and configurations, the reference ranks among the rarest perpetual calendar pocket watches ever created by Patek Philippe. Accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming its production in 1951 and subsequent sale in December 1957, it represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire one of the manufacture's most influential complicated timepieces.
